Stray Cats Choose Their People

In the past, I have overheard my cat helpers say that all stray cats choose their people and I thought how odd seeing that we were trapping so many cats weekly for TNR. None of the cats had chosen us they were terrified of us. After they were sterilized and vaccinated, we would release them and they would runoff. My cat helpers would then say, the cat did not choose you.

I never thought much of the cats choosing their people until the other day. You see two years ago a black kitten ventured into my yard and into my flower window box. That kitten wanted into my house, he wanted to live with me. Regretfully my husband said I could not take in any more cats so I instead fed the kitten and gave it fresh water. Set up an outdoor house for it and took care of it while it lived outdoors.

A neighbor asked if he could have the cat and I thought that would be wonderful. However, on the day I went looking for the cat it was gone. We later learned that a family who walked past home picked up the kitten and took it home.

Two years later, my neighbor tells me that the people who had taken the black kitten had moved and abandoned the cat. In no time that cat found its way to my house and once again sat in my flower box.

When I went out to see the black cat, it did not run from me. Instead, it meowed and came to me. He walked through my legs and rubbed all over me. I suppose this black cat that crossed my path when it was a kitten had chosen me and now two years later it came back to me.

Here are some photographs

Bombay Cat and Green Clover Wall Clock

This Bombay cat with its shiny coat sure does look gorgeous with green clover contrast and this photo clock makes or a fabulous gift for cat lover.

A few years ago this cat found my yard by the woods and decided to spend the summer with me.  At the time I thought he was visiting with the other neighborhood cats and going home at night.  But when six months past and weather started to change I realized that the cat had taken residency in my garden shed.

This regal looking black cat had ran away from his people after they had took in a queen cat and her kittens.    Know that I took many photographs of this mature cat, and that in the green clover photo he is age 16.  After reviewing all of the photographs I found that this photo was the best and that it works well when used as a wall clock

This clock would make a wonderful gift for a cat lover.  It is a good size wall clock for home office and will compliment any cat theme.

Trapping an Injured Neighborhood Cat

Part of my duties as a cat caretaker and rescuer is to watch over the cats and to trap them if any of them are injured.

So when the baby-injured feral kitten showed up at the workshop with a noticeable lump on his upper leg I knew that he needed veterinarian care.

Feral kitten I trapped in a Live animal trap

We tried to catch the kitten but when that failed we decided to set up the Havahart double-door trap that I bought at amazon.com in the workshop and close off the kitty door so he could not exit and other cats could not enter.

The live animal trap was set and baited with Friskies mixed grill canned cat food and I also added some water in a small plastic bowl.  This stinky food should attract the cat into the live animal trap. When the feral kitten enters the trap this evening at least he will have food and water and a soft bed of straw.  I covered the trap with a soft white baby blanket, so the kitten will think the trap is its den. The blanket is a way to lessen any stress or anxiety.

The kitten entered the trap and was not distressed. His leg needs to be looked at by a veterinarian.  Trapping was successful
