Found White and Gray Tabby Kitten

Today when I went out to the shed to check to see if any cats had entered through the kitty door I discovered that food was eaten from the food bowl.  I looked to see if a cat was there but could not find one. That didn't mean that there was no cat in the shed as it could be that it had a really good hiding spot.

I took steps to set up an overnight feeding station of wet and dry food plus a fresh bowl of water. I then set a self-warming cat bed on the floor along with catnip toys.

Before turning the lights out I heard movement in the back of the shed, it sounded like it was coming from behind a storage container, so I took my flashlight to look behind the container, and there in the corner I found a gray and white tabby kitten.

The kitten appears to be approximately three months old.  It looks healthy however there was no collar and it wasn't sterilized.   From the way the cat is hissing and spitting at me, I assume that it is feral or maybe just afraid of me.

We provided the kitten with a safe and warm space with food, water, toys, and a litter box.  Tomorrow we will look for lost cat flyers, and also put the word out that we found a white and gray tabby kitten.

I stayed with the kitten and took a few photographs. It's afraid of me but doesn't appear to be feral.  Here are a few photographs of the kitten that came into our shed.

White Manx Cat Found

We found a rare white Manx cat in our yard and at first, we thought it was a neighborhood stray, but when we found that it was living in our yard we thought it was abandoned. (Sleeping in the grass garden, or under the side deck)

We ruled out feral quickly due to it not hissing at people, and not running away from humans. That is not to say that the cat does not walk away when we come close to it but unlike feral cats. When I approach the cat it walks to a safe distance and sits down.

Whenever we find a stray cat living in our yard we do feed it and give it water while searching for its people. Normally I take photographs of the cat and post a flyer around the neighborhood and on local bulletin boards. I also put a flyer in the mailboxes with the cat's information along with how to contact me.

A woman five houses away called and told me that the cat looks a lot like the kittens from a house two doors down from me. They had a Manx cat but instead of putting the kittens up for adoption they just opened the garage. I learned this occurred ten years ago and that this woman said she had trapped a white Manx cat and had it spayed and vaccinated before releasing.

So if this is the same cat then it was part of the TNR program and I guess found its way to a neighbor who cared for it / adopted the cat I do not know. I do know that a neighbor recently moved and this white cat recently found its way to my yard.

Our thinking is that the people that moved may have left the cat behind, or maybe they were the cats caretaker and now the cat has found its way to my yard. So many unanswered questions.

My husband and I have decided to get the cat dependent upon us for food and water then trap it and take it into the veterinarian to check for a microchip.

In the meantime I call this cat Honey…

Found Cat / Seeking Pet Owner

Two weeks ago we observed an adult fox chasing a gray and white tabby Cat The cat was running for its life down the middle of the street at dusk. People who were close to the chase did run toward the fox waving their arms, this of course scared the fox and he gave up the chase. The same cat that was chased by the fox ran for its life and ended up at my house 5 blocks away from where the chase began.

It is safe to say that this cat was found because the cat ran into the open door of my basement and commenced with a sorrowful meowing. My husband and I investigated and found a friendly kitty, that is well groomed and nails trimmed. We decided to keep the cat in our basement overnight to prevent it from getting chased by another fox. We were certain that in the morning the cat's people would be searching for this very well groomed and cared for cat.

Nobody was looking for the cat. So my husband and I went door to door with a photo of the cat asking if anyone had lost their cat. To our surprise, not one person in a 5 block radius knew the cat, but all agreed it was a very nice looking cat and that there was a problem with foxes in the neighborhood.

When we could not locate the owner we took the cat to our veterinarian so they could check for a microchip. None was found. Then we learned that the cat was sterilized, nails clipped, no fleas and if the pet owner does all that, then the cat is current with vaccines. We also learned that the cat was in excellent health.

The next thing that we did was see if the kitty would go home on its own. Nope, it laid in my catnip garden most of the morning then laid by our pond or chased lizards in my wildflower garden. The following day I posted a found cat classified ad in our newspaper. No calls were received. Posted on a public cat rescue on Facebook and on the Humane Society Facebook page.

After having the cat for a week, we looked for flyers for a lost cat, when none were seen we posted a found cat flyer. We spoke to so many people that we made new friends. Everyone says it is a nice looking cat and did you find the owner?

We know that most people do not realize that their cat is missing until the cat has been gone for 10 to 14 days so we are still hopeful that we will find the cat owner in our neighborhood or somebody will know the person who lost their cat.

Cat Found in Snow Storm Was Reunited with Owners

The little tabby that I found at 10 p.m. sitting in the snow under my lilac bush spent the night in a pet crate in my heated mudroom.  This house cat was covered with snow and had no claws so I suspected he got out and did not know how to go home.

Normally when I find a lost cat I will post flyers in the neighborhood and put an ad in the classified section of our paper.  But today I did not have to any of that because a women was on my block looking for her cat.

Feral cat in winter snow

I informed her how I found the cat; sitting under my lilacs bush when it was snowing, the cat was covered with snow and did not know how to find shelter on a bitter cold night.  She told me I never should have brought him into my house, that if he got cold enough he would have gone home.  The woman said the cat has fur and can be left outdoors in winter.

Many cat owners assume that because the cat has a thick coat that they can be left outdoors throughout the winter months and do not need an insulated shelter.  What cat owners do not realize is that cats are susceptible to frostbite on the tip of their ears, nose, tail and toes.  Cats that are left out in the extreme cold will suffer from hypothermia and this condition puts the cat’s life at risk.
KH outdoor insulated cat house

I made my recommendation by suggesting a KH insulated outdoor cat house from Amazon.com to the cat owner or to buy an insulated dog igloo medium sized from PetSmart or Wal-Mart and provide the cat with self heating pad.  So the outdoor cat will have a shelter to go to when there is snow, rain, wind or extreme cold.

Here are some cats in snow cards that I designed from my photographs of feral cats in my care.  All photographs were captured in the Ozark Mountains.  Enjoy!
